Cloudy with a Chance of Weezy

Mix by Shakey

Download: Cloudy with a Chance of Weezy

Well Sweet Georgia Brown its finally spring and I sure am excited. Its time to cook outside and turn the volume up. This tape is my best attempt to encourage that behavior. So lets get started with a song about getting high on codeine.

01. The Weeknd High for This
I love the R&B bent of The Weeknd and High for This is easily my favorite of theirs. So much bass buzz.

02. Dirty Gold California Sunrise
The opening of this song always reminds me of Africa by which is great since I dig that song but Dirty Gold is definitely at the beach and he really wants us all to come out and chill. Its a cool breeze with the promise of it heating up real soon.

03. Lil’ Wayne 6 Foot 7 Foot
Weezy gets out of jail, probably because Kanye told everyone to on his last album, and the first song he records is this ridiculously bass heavy  which I can’t seem to stop playing on a regular basis.

04. Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings This Land is Your Land
Horns, horns, horns. They always make me want to turn it up.  Celebrate this land, its a beautiful day outside.

05. April Smith and the Great Picture Show Colors
This is another song I keep playing and playing and playing. Just the kind of hopeful positive track you wanna hear going into spring.

06. Das Racist you can sell anything
The Das Racist crew is pretty cool and definitely strange. Pair ‘em up with Diplo and they might as well be cold as ice. As much as I like this song it will never top their own Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell of course is nowhere near as good as a real combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell which is nowhere near as awe inspiring as a KFC Taco Hut.

07. Bellerouche Clockwatching

08. Roach Gigz Can I Rap
Yes is the answer. Big bass kicking really matches well with Roach’s flow.

09. Secret Cities Boyfriends

10. Sweatshop Union Oh My

11. Culver City Dub Collective Aoudini (Koool G Murder Remix)
The only thing I know about the Culver City Dub Collective is that I have one of their albums and that Aoudini is one of my favorite dub tracks of all time. The first minute is kind of a drag then the song comes alive with plenty of horns for all.

12. Social Studies Time Bandit
Social Studies drummer Michael Jirkovsky really kills it on Time Bandit. It takes a little while for the song to warm up and then it rocks with extreme prejudice.

13. Beat Connection Silver Screen

14. Reptar Ready or Not
My roommate really likes this song and so I’ve heard it quite a bit and well I dig it too.

15. Sims Burn it Down
The name says it all on this one. Sims spits hot fire for three minutes over a great hype horn beat.

16. Javelin Vibrations
A couple of years ago this song made my summer, so I was happy to come across it again recently. Simply upbeat with some excellent bells.

17. Beastie Boys Make Some Noise This is the time of year I usually break out a little Beastie action with some Paul’s Boutique or Check Your Head but this spring I have a little glimmer of hope that the guys who “did it like this, did it like that, did it with a wiffle ball bat” put out an album I can turn up most of the summer.

18. Of Monsters and Men Little Talk

19. M.I.A. Bad Girls
M.I.A. is hard for me to figure out. Sometimes I can’t stand her, sometimes I dig her. Bad Girls I dig. It starts off big and strong and stays that way.
