The Roadtrip Soundtrack

Mix by Vincent

This is all about the power of memory and how the mind recreates it... with music.
You know when you're checking pictures from the past and you're amazed how the image taken many years ago became the memory itself. What Proust describes as the “madeleine” (shell-shaped cookie) experience in his book “In Search of Lost Time”. Music of course does the same, it sends you straight back to some moments of your life. You’re not just thinking about it but you feel the experience of it like you’re there again just because a triggering factor.
The road-trip soundtrack accompanied me during maybe the most incredible moment of my life : driving through the States (i’m from across the lake) with a girl for more then a month straight.
The 5 CDs that we managed to burn before my burner died  became the soundtrack as we were experiencing the trip. It was creating a layer of fiction on top of reality. Adding a mood and an atmosphere to the landscapes and situations. We were very much so aware of that. It built a cinematographic dramatization of a love story.
Listening now to any of the tracks that were composing this soundtrack brings me back on the road.
A year and a half had passed and I’m still listening to it. Savouring the “madeleine” almost everyday.
My proposition here is not the actual soundtrack from this past trip but a proposal for another road-trip (in Scotland this time) and an invitation to build stories/memories on top of this music through a trip.
Bon voyage!
