Back to the Future

Mix by David

This mix started as a list of electronic music I like to work to. Although beats are heavy and quite danceable, they are repetitious and have limited vocals, ambient enough to concentrate on work.

I started thinking about all the older electronic music I listened to in high school and early college days that nobody else was down with. This is when popular electronic music was house and trance. I was listening to what they ridiculously termed IDM (intelligent dance music), Aphex Twin, Square Pusher, and Boards of Canada. Autechre and Amon Tobin are also from this era although I hadn’t heard about them yet. Nowadays electronic methods are incorporated into most genres. A recent top list of music from last year was 90% labeled as “indietronica.” (Thanks Chan!)

Songs for Arts and Crafts Time

Mix by Mason

Hey y’all:
This mix is a long time coming.  It reflects my soul, and my spirit.  My soul being represented by songs like Please Be With Me with Duane Allman and Silence Ain’t Golden Anymore by Gregg.  My spirit being as free as it can be when listening to songs like Hustler by SMD and Celio Song by The Books and Jose Gonzalez.  I promise you will find at least two songs you love on this mix.  Thanks for listening.  Reciprocate in-kind.

Hero, Protagonist

Mix by David,

Hello and thanks for welcoming me to CD Club!  This is my first submission, as well as the first time I’ve ever put some sort of effort into making a playlist.  I admit it was surprisingly difficult but fun nonetheless!

My concept for this album was to see if I could build a soundtrack for a heroic action movie that you would watch in your mind.  I tend to visualize random things when I listen to music, so I thought if I strung some songs together in a specific order, they might be able to act as vehicles for characters in a mental movie.  If you’re interested, I invite you to get creative and imaginative, and let the music take control of characters in your mind and see what happens.  Below are some (admittedly cheesy) prompts for how you could picture particular scenes of this epic/tragic/heroic action movie.  Feel free to ignore them as you wish.  Either way, I hope you find some gems in this album, and apologies to those who have heard these tracks before.

Tootles for now, and enjoy :D !

Here's my theory... the "Ex-Presidents" are surfers!

Mix by Vincent

Hi Everyone,

First off, I wanna thank you all for the delight to discover and savour your mix tapes every other week. Some of those songs are now part of my everyday life so much that I found myself wanting to add this soul version of Jealous Guy to my compilation before I realized where it was coming from. There must be a forfeit to penalize such a mistake.

Then, I apologize because I’ve been and I’m still super busy and I didn’t really have the time to think at all about the literature for this mixtape so all I’ve got is a quotation from an old shameful favorite movie from teenage as a guiding thread :
The Ex-Presidents are surfers!
I guess what happened is pretty basic winter-psychology turning into a sort of bad sophism :
So February makes me wanna be in summer.
Summer makes me wanna be a surfer. (Which I’m really not...)
February makes me wanna surf...
and I also must have been listening too much to the radio hammering the presidential campaign in France right now. I wish we could have a surfer as a president...

Anyways, I hope you’ll enjoy the music that I assembled for this warming up mixtape.
Some tracks have no name because I edited them from untitled sources so if by chance you know the Hawaian artist (track 3) please let me know.

Aloha!

Thump Biscuit

Mix by Mark

AYO! Greetings everyone!

Remixi, Mashups, 2 degrees of interrelated instrumelodies and the unrelated related collabo's! AKA Thump Biscuit! So I've been pumpn several versions of this mix for the last 6 months. This has made it very difficult. The right song at the right time is really a problem for me. There are interesting facts about all these tracks and why I picked them. But Imma leave most of that out. Listen, research and you shall find the common thread, besides the obvious. Placement may be sketchy, So I say... Headphone cardio collabo touch everything museum and lets just let the biscuits (CHIPS) fall were they may.  I invite you to my mix, the one that has hunted me so.

Voyages to the North

Mix by Shakey

Download: Voyages to the North

For the most part I tried to use music which I already had. That meant digging through the CDs I still have which was quite a bit of fun. There is some newer stuff on this list too because I like listening to it.

If you buy a girl a drink, but you take the first sip

Mix by Mason

This mix includes some of my favorite hip-hop tracks that I am usually reluctant to share, but after listening to many of your mixes I realized they will be well received.  In keeping with my life, this mix is eclectic, at times emotional, momentarily sobering, nostalgic, and often feelgood as well.  Importantly, in this write-up you’ll find links for the direct download of a few tracks using a new website that I found which does not require you to create an account, etc. like Dropbox.
