Slaughterhouse Blues

Mix by Fieldhouse

The themes for my cd club mixes tend to not be as cohesive as many of the other releases.  As per usual, my mix mostly follows the general theme of "my favorite songs that I discovered over the last year".  It's mostly folk, country, pop, and electronic (or more indie versions of those genres).

I started off with a really fun/happy song about suicide, "Harlem River Blues".  Next up is a good cover of "Wake Up Everybody", which is a song I remember my mom singing a lot when I was little.  After that is a slower,  powerful song, "Oh Mississippi", that really reminds me of about three other songs (this one could also be about suicide, but I don't think so).  As we get closer to the middle of the mix, there's a transition from folk to country.  The country then eases back into some more folky/punky songs.  The end of the mix is a series of pop to electronic songs.  "Go On Yer Self", in particular, is a really catchy pop song by some random Scottish guy.  The final song, "Rubber and Meat", is my all-time favorite song about working in a slaughterhouse.
